PERSONAL PARADIGM ABOUT SELF-DEVELOPMENT
During the first days our class on DVC, it was a constant reminder that development must first come from ourselves . To have such goal will help us on achieving success on the things we do. Paradigm, a way of seeing things, interpreting the life or a process in life, will channel us directly into our goal or plan. As for me, it is a formula to some important things that concerns systematization including of course our own selves. With that, let me share to you my paradigm on self-development.
THE “I x V = R” FORMULA
I’ve learned this formula way back my highschool years. From then on, it was embedded on my system. “I” stands for Imagination, where “V” is Vividness and “R” is Reality. You imagine what you want to become, be specific on the details and it will become reality.
I just want to quote a line from a philosophical novel, Sophie’s World, “Everything must come from nothing.” Just like God, who has His plan from the start,we must be the creator of the things we want to have or those we want to pursue. Meaning, we must have a vision first before we take our actions. Imagination, which stimulates creativity, help us redirect our purpose in life-what would I want to be? We envision the path we want to choose and I know no sane man would want to have a miserable life at all. Having those dreams in our minds, we unconsciously create instaht avenues for us to reach these.
From our minds, we must carry it into our hearts. Besides, it is where passion resides, which will fuel us in achieving our goals. It is not enough to just say, “Hey, I wanna be successful someday.” Yes, it is a vision. Having this vision direct our purpose in life. But to where? Vividness helps us focus on the details that willlead to the fulfillment of our dreams. “I want to be a successful “tri-media” person, one to two years from now. I want to write scripts for films and teleserye and for different documentaries on TV. I want to pursue my lifestyle magazine life as a travel and a fashion columnist, and also I want to be a Saturday midnight Radio Disk Jockey.” This is something more vivid. Indeed, it will give us clear directions. It will give us something to focus onto. From the specific, we’ll be able to create route plan towards our vision.
Life is not just a journey but a “stick-to-your-route” journey. We arethe driver, and it is up to us what route we’ll gonna take. If we’d just sure what we want in our life, we’d be able to choose necessary path top our success. From the vision to vivid detailsof that vision, life requires us to do our part in taking action. Moreover, it is what we need to turn these dreams into reality.
“Be careful with your thoughts for they become actions.” This “I x V = R” formula helped and still helps me in every thing I do in my life. From the littlest dreams and short-term goals to the grandest aspirations and life-time plans, this formula always serves its purpose-to drive me into development. I always belive that having goals and dreams is the start of personal improvement or development. I live this paradigm since I was a freshmen student in highschool, right after our English instructor Mrs. Glenda Miradora Trinidad introduced this during one of our audiotape exercises. One proof that it impinges on us is it was became the introduction of the graduation speech of our class valedictorian. And I’m happy and proud that what was once a “Class Prophesy” during our Highschool years, now became and on it’s way to reality.
